Couplets

Fifth Grade Poems from 2003-2004 during my first full year teaching here in the states after a year of teaching in Mexico and a year of subbing. These students are now adults, and a few are my friends of Facebook. A few are seniors in college and about to graduate this May.

Chocolate cake burns in ovens it gets hot as the sun.
Gets sprinkles on it but I rather prefer a chocolate bun.

I have a house
Shaped like a mouse.

 

Mariana

I eat pizza every weekend.
I ate the pizza at the end.

 

Carlos

Me and my best friend are loyal.
Me and my best friend will always be royal.

 

Patricia

My dog likes to fight.
She sometimes has to bight.

 

Girls.

  2. Awesome. Dario’s is particularly so: “I hate enemies / That steal my laundry.” Worthy to be framed and put on a wall. And such a complex rhyme, too.

    Children are much better poets than adults. They are the most creative poets of the world because they can transcend a complexity that we often mangle up in lines, with just an utterance to make it clear. Bravo to your kids!
